Thin section of Karlsbad Sprudelstein a rare sedimentary rock composed of usually large "ooids" (coated grains) of the carbonate aragonite. In thin section, the numerous thin aragonite layers within the ooids are revealed and the surrounding needles of aragonite cement keep the ooids together. The sample is unique, from the Karlovy Vary District, Czech Republic. Field of View 4mm (XP).
