The Geology Hub Shop offers a unique service, whereby individuals or institutions can request standard thin section from the selection of hand specimen of various rock types that have been collected over the years. All rock specimens listed have a short description and location.
Thin sections can be requested as a single section of one rock specimen, any number of sections from different rock specimens or multiple thin sections for teaching sets from a hand specimen (depending on rock specimen availability). If a rock type is not listed please contact Geology Hub as there is an extensive back log of rock specimens collected over the last 40 years. All thin sections will be prepared on request.

Even after 40 years I have never lost the excitement of making geological microscope slides knowing that I will be the first to look upon the microscopic view of a 30-micron thick slice of rock. In the process I have observed stunning and weird minerals phases and minerals textures while looking down the petrological microscope. Some are an art form or ‘a natural geo-abstract art form’ in their own right which should be shared to a larger audience. Images are stunning, vibrant and offers a unique on the microscopic view that few see.

How to order a thin section on request.
Chose from the list of available rock samples for a hand-prepared standard thin section on request. On the order form below enter the sample name for a thin section request. Or email requests to - geologyhubuk@gmail.com directly. I’m happy to make one thin section or several from the same sample or single sections from different samples. On receipt of an order I will forward (via email) an invoice with total costs and bank/payment details. I will then contact you again once you order is ready - 3-4 working days. Once I receive payment the thin sections will be dispatch. In the UK, postage is free by courier. International buyers please contact me to discuss the most economic options. Always happy to combined postage on multiple sections to reduce overall postage costs.

Large Dinosaur Bone
This sample of a Large Dinosaur bone fragment found on the Isle of Wight, species unknown, but probably a large plant eater due to size. In a great state of preservation (red iron oxide) with visible cellular structure. All thin sections cut cross the grain of the bone texture and will make section as large as possible.
